There is lots happening this month to celebrate LGBT+ History Month in Croydon. We’re supporting Croydon-based organisations Bold Mellon, Queer Croydon and Croydon Pride to bring you an eclectic programme of events!

From family storytime with your favourite pantomime dame, Mama G, to experimental music and movement collaborations; and inspirational speakers discussing pride and activism to hands-on creative workshops and skills sharing.

Queer Croydon: In Community – Braithwaite Hall (21 Feb)

Delve into the topic of LGBTQ+ histories through different hands-on creative activities. In this two hour workshops, participants rotate through four creative stations in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Each activity will be led by a different Queer Croydon facilitator including Joel Aston (roleplay and improv), Merlin Golder-Coelho (food decoration), Michael Dare (collage) and Sabiyha Rasheed (creative wordplay).

Bold Mellon: Queer Frequencies – Stanley Arts (14 – 28 Feb)

From 14 – 28 Feb, Bold Mellon are taking over Stanley Arts with Queer Frequencies. This includes a free to visit exhibition of artworks by Aaran Sian, Eli Delbaere, Amy-Rose Edlyn and Venus Raven, exploring themes of Queer ancestry and personal mythologies. Then on 28 Feb, Shifting Shapes Live, sees music and movement combine for a evening of collaboration and improvisation in a Queer-centred space.

Croydon Pride: Talks and Workshops – The Event Rooms (28 Feb)

Croydon Pride bring talented and inspirational speakers to The Event Rooms in Croydon on 28 Feb. Families can join an uplifting storytime session with the sensational Mama G – everyone’s favourite pantomime dame and semi-finalist of Britain’s Got Talent.

Participate in a two hour arts therapy workshop in a safe space to play, connect and celebrate identity. Facilitated by arts therapist Ly Orrock and multidisciplinary artist and trainee art psychotherapist Mish, you’ll be invited to take part in art-making and gentle movement.

And later, join Bisi Alimi for a talk on sharing his lived experience as an openly gay, HIV-positive Nigerian and will discuss creating inclusive, prejudice-free spaces drawing on his activism work.
