2023 | Dir Hayao Miyazaki | 124m | Japan / BAFTA winner – “Animated Film”

A young boy named Mahito yearning for his mother ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning.

In wartime Japan, young Mahito is evacuated to the country, where his father has married his late mother’s sister. After his stepmother is taken ill and disappears into the forest, a strange grey heron lures Mahito into a mysterious world full of spirits and talking birds, which he must navigate in order to reunite his family. Legendary director Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro) has come out of retirement to deliver another enchanting fable, striking a wonderful balance of humour, magic and emotion. English dub
