Composer and artist Felix Taylor invites participants to explore ideas around sound, score-making and play. Over two hours, Felix will introduce the group to the world of musical scores, looking towards abstract ‘graphic scores’ as a way to develop and record musical ideas that might exist outside of traditional composition.

The session will begin with ‘deep listening’ exercises, encouraging participants to listen to their own musical suggestions with a ‘composer’s ear’. A group discussion around musical scores will then descend into noisy chaos as the group is led to perform scores written by Felix himself. The group will then write and perform their own graphic scores inspired by experimental composers and the furthest reaches of modern classical music.

This workshop forms part of the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor 150 anniversary programme, honouring the life and impact of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor — a pioneering Black British composer whose work and legacy championed cultural expression, experimentation and accessibility within music.

Tickets are priced at £5, including a welcome drink, and must be booked in advance via Eventbrite.
